The Invitation

By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
And if you dare to dream of meeting
Your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
For love, for your dream,
For the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
If you have been opened by life's betrayals,
Or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain,
Mine or your own,
Without moving
To hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy,
Mine or your own,
If you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
Without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can be faithless and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty
Even when it is not pretty every day,
And if you can source your own life
From its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure,
Yours and mine,
And still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair,
Weary and bruised to the bone,
And do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
In the center of the fire with me
And not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
From the inside
When all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
With yourself,
And if you truly like the company you keep
In the empty moments.

Thank You

Its so blazing hot down here its refreshing to see a white christmas

As the year  approaches its end, we are constantly reminded of the moments that made the year eventful, both the ups, and the downs...And as usual, this is the time I find myself most grateful for the people in my life who've kept me afloat during my trying times and who've laughed with me during the lovely times.

I wish you all a pleasant,prosperous and memorable 2012.

Beneath the Namibian sky

Visiting the Himbas of Namibia

It's refreshing to see people still proud of their culture and traditions, not affected by modernity. We often forget who we are, where we come from, and how precious everything is.
Love the skin you're in.

I just love the fact that most of my brother's old formal pants are perfect for me, especially since I can never find the perfect size in the women's sections

Live space

A quick shot of colour
Image from apartmenttherapy.com/
I'll have to relocate soon to be nearer to school and as always the thought of something new, in this case a flat or apartment has got me all excited. Just the anticipation alone has got me looking for all sorts of ideas online on how to make the new place unique.
Here are some pretty good ideas I'd like to incorporate into the space in some way or other.

Foot forward

Rage shoes, White shirt/woolworths, sweater/mr price

This year I've been trying quite hard to be less materialistic, to buy quality and not quantity, and to reuse what I can. But when I saw these shoes I just couldn't resist. Not only are they sexy but they fit like a dream and I'm sure the world over knows how heels can kill a girl's feet. I do wish they were a more versatile colour like black but this off white colour will do just as well.
And as for the sweater and shirt, well, I've been drifting towards the androgynous look as seen herehere and  here and I've been looking around for plain white shirts to start me off.
Maybe sometime soon you'll see the whole look come together.

Have a great week

To Rome To Roam

By Binta

To roam to rome?
To rome to roam?
The mind to mind?
Y mind what doesn't,
My mind shouldn't.
Why bind wat shouldn't?
In a bind? I wouldn't!

Poet, I be not, rhyme I think naught.
Of rhymes n lines I see bores and whines,
For wines and dime they do have my mind!

To rome, we roam,
Tis but thy home,
Fine italian women,
Togas n linen...
Whoops old days
Ceasers n old ways!!!
Its popes n bishops,
Bibles n bookshops!

In my mind now, let's roam
N oh its no rome!
There's demons in ditches, n boil filled witches!
Dark n deep, these dreadlocks do keep,
Unseen things n fiends,
Wriggling squirming, these vermin never sleep.
How do I begin, to tell
Of nightmares in hell?

To roam in rome,
Of smiles n sunny homes,
Alas, my tale has come to a halt,
For I cannot
Spare another thought,
For rome dear rome......

Is not my home...

The blogging experience

Generic eyeliner, Kangol Wild length lashes lash extend, Clinique high impact mascara in Black, lipstick [got it free with a magazine although I cant wear that shade]
As I try to persist with this blog, I'm only just realising how much goes into maintaining a decent blog, and I do hope this is a decent blog. There is the issue of trying not to step on anyone's toes when you repost their posts or use their images while still sourcing fresh and new material to appeal to readers... hmph, I hope I can live up to the challenge.

Well, here's a short tale on how I started blogging anyway, and what it has been like so far...

Words of a Dreamer

Image from http://www.imaginature.nl/

From where I stand I see not the moon tonight, perhaps it has chosen to shy away in the presence of your beauty.... If we could, and if you would allow it, I'd ask you to dance with me tonight.
And when the moon finally shines brightly in the night sky,all our secrets will be revealed. I'll take your hand, and there will be no rain or snow. There will be only you and me.

MIND AND SOUL by Semeret Haile Hiruy

I think I know you but you know me
Showing you me is what i hate
Ye shalt not dare to show the heart
It is for fools to be so sweet
If i don't believe it will i regret
for not listening when i was hurt
Yet happy souls say go on show it
When you are you it will work out
What is certain it is so odd
If hot is good so can be cold
Love is good for love brings love
Love also brings the need to have

Isn't to have is to possess
The strongest need we must not confess
Need for the soul can not be earned
Should need be asked or should it be begged

It might hurt you to speak your mind
To fill your soul you risk your pride
It is pain full need isn't good
If one can't speak why should one need
Pride is for fools there is only fate
It wont matter when soul finds mate
To hell with pride soul must be fed
A soul in need needs a friend indeed

Escapades

I've been so bored lately I actually decided to get  sewing machine and learn how to sew.it has been easier than I thought it would be, especially since I've been learning from tutorials online but here is some of what I've done so far.Quite a few  mishaps here and there but hey, if I can wear it, it is some sort of success.

Belt from Mr Price. Clothes sewed by your truly.

Ps. What do you think of the new header and colours?

For me

Seeing as I'm an endless romantic and an eternal dreamer and lover of all things even remotely poetic, I find myself currently obsessed with I Wrote This For You.

[I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND SOMETHING. I WROTE THIS FOR YOU. I WROTE THIS FOR YOU AND ONLY YOU. EVERYONE ELSE WHO READS IT, DOESN’T GET IT. THEY MAY THINK THEY GET IT, BUT THEY DON’T. THIS IS THE SIGN YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR. YOU WERE MEANT TO READ THESE WORDS.]

Not to sound too weird but when I read all those entries I feel like he writes just for me. I can relate to that artful soul who finds solace in words. I'm sure I'm not the only girl one who feels this way and I'm sure some of you would be able to relate.

Daggers and dragons

北方有佳人,絕世而獨立。一顧傾人城,再顧傾人國。寧不知傾城與傾國。佳人難再得。

In the north there is a beauty; surpassing the world, she stands alone. A glance from her will overthrow a city; another glance will overthrow a nation. One would rather not know whether it will be a city or nation overthrown. As it would be hard to see a beauty like this again.
Li Yannian (李延年

I'm not often a martial arts fan but I recently stumbled across Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon...And yes, I know I'm about 10 yeras late but I found myself enthralled. What can I say, I'm as ucker for a good story. And that's how I landed on House of Flying Daggers. I'm such a sucker for romance and a good story. Where has chivalry gone?! Where is the honor and passion that led people to die for what they believe in?
Sigh. How can I be nostalgic for a past I never lived?

Today

Dedicated to a dear darling fellow Darkling.

If I die today
Will you forgive me
Or remember that it was I
Who broke your heart to pieces
And forged you a brand new soul?

If I die today
Will you mourn for me
Or remember that it was I
Who fixed your twisted smile
With words torn from my lips?

If I die today
Will you pack up our memories
Or remember that it was I
Who carefully cured you
Of those lies of pain?

If I die today
Will you still think of me
When you remember that it was I
Who held you unwillingly
In the prison of my arms?

If I die today
Will you rejoice for me
And remember that it was I
Who let your heart bleed
While I looked on with pride?

If I die today
Will your soul weep for me
And remember that it was I
Who lit that fierce fire
That burns in the depths of your eyes?
Sigh. With so much time on my hands I find myself patrolling random sites and places and thats how I found these:

Camera, ACTION

I really need to get myself a decent camera. It is hard to blog without being able to share images of ur ideas especially when i love all those brilliant images on the other blogs I follow. Any ideas on decently priced models that would be ideal for blogging?
I would love to start out with a Canon EOS 1000D

or to be more realistic I think I should start off with a compact like a
 and work my way up.

I wonder if any bloggers have any specific models they've found particularly useful.

the Story

I'm typing this post while my gold nail polish is still drying so please excuse any spelling mistakes I might make. This is not as simple as it looks because meanwhile I'm resisting this URGE to scratch my hair.

I've recently rediscovered the song the story by Brandi Carlile [courtesy of a tv ad] and it feels quit right as I prepare to close, an albeit small, chapter of my life and start a new one.
I hope you you find some inspiration in the tit bits I share with you here.
The power of imagination makes us infinite.

I BEG YOU Laban Erapu

   I beg you,
If you feel something like love for me,
Not to let me know it now
When I feel nothing so certain for you-
Wait until you've conquered my pride
By pretending not to care for me.

   I beg you
If you think your eyes will give you away,
Not to give me that longing look
When you know it'll force the moment-
Wait until our heartbeats have settled
Then put your head on my shoulder.

   I beg you
Not to let us surrender to passion
Until our liking has grown to love:
Let's stop and look back,
Let's draw apart and sigh,
Let's say goodbye for the day
And walk our different ways
Without pausing to wait
For an echo to our last word.

   I beg you,
If you find yourself interlocked
In my embrace,
To kiss me and keep me silent
Before I start making promises
That time may choose to bypass-
Wait until our hands are free,
Then listen to me;
Wait until our love is primed,
Then give me your hand

Cry With the Saints

They say there's a heaven for those who will wait

Some say it's better but I say it ain't

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
the sinners are much more fun...

I recently came across the song Only The Good Die Young by Billy Joel [via an episode of glee] and although it does sound blasphemous, for those pious people, I felt just a tad inspired to LIVE MORE.
Hence here's a list of a couple of things people don't know about me.

  1. I love to read because its a form of escape from my otherwise mundane life. I lose myself in the characters and actually live through them.
  2. I fold the bottom of my jeans till just above my ankles because I'm very short and petite and I read somewhere that it makes you look taller.
  3. I wish I had a little more flesh on my bones
  4. I wish my skin was as dark as my sister's so my acne scars wouldn't show so much
  5. I'm never satisfied with what I have because yes, I do believe contentment kills creativity and someone once told me never to lower any expectations. Once you start, all the others follow.
  6. I have GREAT EXPECTATIONS. Some might call them delusions of grandeur.
What don't people know about you?

    The Sartorialist

Lately I've noticed my growing interest in [mostly] fashion blogs and that's how I came across The Sartoriaist. It has become a regular dose of inspiration for me who's still a little timid about expressing myself through what i wear. And yes, I actually had to look up the meaning of that word before I had the aha! moment.

    Noun

    sartorialism (uncountable)
    1. an interest in matters of or relating to the tailoring of clothing.

    BORN FREE

In Namibia those born after Independence are often called the "born frees". This picture just inspires me to celebrate my individual independence and take every day as it comes![I was born free after all] It brings back memories of the poem Dream of This by Marianne Williamson
"You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people do not feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.It is not just in some of us, it is in all of us."

    Proudly African

While getting my monthly dose of Glamour, I came across loin cloth and ashes, a dynamic South African design label that once again makes me PROUD to be African.

    Doing it myself

It has been a semi eventful weekend. I got inspired by Takeoffyourclothes to do this t-shirt dress and i spent Friday trying to make my own [amateur-ish] version. Because I'm very petite, I had to find reasonably small men's shirts, which is not as easy as it may seem.
The dress did turn out better than i expected and I took pics of it to post on the blog but unfortunately the camera had a major malfunction and ALL my pictures were erased. I haven't fixed the problem yet so I had to take these pictures with a phone. [Made a second one just for practice!]

I've just recently jumped onto the DIY bandwagon and for a first project, I'm really proud of myself.
    What do you think?

    Secrets

     Image from Post secret

I just got a phone call from a really dear friend and she reminded me that life is what you make of it. I was feeling a little down and out earlier, about nothing in particular, but it was just one of those days.

I am generally scared of large open spaces BECAUSE they make me feel insignificant but i love being out on rooftops or on empty roads early in the mornings or late at night just because they do make my problems seem tiny. I love the general idea of  posting random secrets to be published for the world to see. I find many of the secrets inspirational and wonder about the people who wrote and sent them. I would post a secret myself but I fear that I don't have any secrets worthwhile?
    I'll give it a try.One day soon
Anyone hearing Secrets by One republic in the background?

This is one of my favourite pics ever. This is one of my best friends V showing that a little attitude goes a long way. Given we were a little drunk, it was a memorable night. I miss her.

    Playtime

Had a really great time playing with clay today. My brother has tis special clay that sir dries [no need to put in the oven] and becomes bouncy when dry.
    Bostik crazy clay

I made this "dallmation" as a key holder for my little sister

sorry the pictures aren't very clear

my first attempt was this worm which my sister insists is a snake.

a rabbit caught in the headlights

I made this shark for my brother but it looks more like an aeroplane, doesn't it?

Wishing all those about to return to school all the best.

    Numerology

To start off with, you have to know that I'm one of those people who believes in practically everything [although not so publicly]...from horoscope to the whole "the world is ending in 2012" nonsense. i'm a believer.

I was watching some tv show today, which you'll forgive me for not mentioning, and they talked about life path numbers and how they influence our lives. My curiosity was piqued and  soon i was googling away.
Although i found a whole bunch of different sources [unsurprisingly] and different ideas, i found this to be the closest to my heart.

This is a short excerpt of what it generally says:
The number 11 Life Path has the connotation of illumination describing its general focus. This is the number associated with spiritual awareness. As one of the two master numbers, the 11 yields understanding and knowledge beyond the grasp of others. The attitude toward life of those possessing this Life Path is somewhat extreme; extremely intuitive, avant-garde, idealistic, visionary, and cultured. These extremes make you an interesting, if unusual person, with much to offer society.

    Start a revolution!

That should have come out with a little more enthusiasm. My horoscope says I should start a revolution in 2011 etc.etc.But I'm not the typical aries so i could pretend it doesnt apply to me. I had a very short lived blog last year [which i deleted because of lack of content,] and due to my stubborn determination, and with a little push from the stars I've started over with a new blog. This blog.
And hopefully this time, inspiration will just wash over me like it should.
Hope you all have a great and fruitful 2011!
